A principle aerospace repair technology that we provide support to is "Fluoride-Ion" Cleaning - also called HFC for "Hydrogen Fluoride Cleaning" or FIC "Fluoride-Ion" Cleaning.



Fluoride-Ion Cleaning is a process that can prepare aerospace vanes for braze repair by removing oxides present on used components. Typically, the oxides exist as spinels or oxides of Titanium and Aluminum - both on the surface as well as within cracks of the components. Once the oxides have been removed the surface and cracks can be "braze" repaired.

Additional Process Possibilities


In addition to removal of oxides from nickel based super-alloys typically used on engine components, the process can also be used to remove alumina coatings from Tungsten Carbide "Hard Metal" Cutting tools.This is potentially very important when one is reprocessing tungsten carbide cutting tools and needs to make certain that oxide coatings are not reprocessed along with other hard metal tool coatings such as TiC and TiN.

Safety Issues


The process utilizes HF gas or a substitute such as Carbon Tetrafluoride (CF4) which form HF in process. These precursors, along with Hydrogen being used require a certain mindset to operate safely. Advanced Metallurgical Coatings, Inc can help you work safely through the safety concerns.
